Security chiefs convened an emergency meeting in Port Harcourt after gunmen killed five soldiers in a new attack in Rivers State’s Abua-Odual Local Government Area.
Armed men killed eight security officials along the Port Harcourt-Owerri route, prompting the meeting, which was called at the request of the Commissioner of Police, CP Friday Eboka.
According to a source, the attack in Abua occurred about 11 p.m. on Sunday, when gunmen ambushed soldiers on their way to their hotel in Omelema.
“We were in the village when we learned of an incident at Omelema. The soldiers were employed by an oil service company and had their guns taken away. The company’s CSO escaped with gunshot wounds and is now in the hospital.
However, while there has been no official statement from any of the security agencies on the incident in Abua, the Security Heads also refused an interview with newsmen after the meeting.
