Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have attacked Geidam local government of Yobe state, the home town of the present acting Inspector General of police Usman Alkali Baba.
It was learnt that the terrorists invaded the town in morethan 15 hilux vehicles since 6pm on Friday.
Contrary to reports that ground troops repelled the attack yesterday according to some news outfit, the attackers are currently engaging in a gun duel with the security forces, our reporter can authoritatively gathered.
Residents fled homes for safety since yesterday, thrown in panic amidst the heavy gunshots.
Our source who doesn’t want name in print disclosed that the terrorists disguised within the town and later on seized fire when the Nigerian airforce fighter jet arrived for reinforcement.
” We thought they had left since yesterday, only for us to woke up with their destruction this morning.
” Though we are locked indoors we learnt they burnt down vehicles belonging to construction workers and fire service” a source said in frightened voice.
“As I speak to you they shut down both Mtn and airtel network we can only be reach through our Glo lines.
” Our government and security need to put more effort to end this insurgency”
When contacted by our reporter the Army acting spokesman of sector 2 Operation LAFIYA Dole Lieutenant Kennedy Anyawau said he will get back with an update.
Geidam is at distance of 182 kilometers from Damaturu, the state capital of Yobe State.
