Filling stations turned to motor parks in Miaduguri says, Commissioner

The overseeing Commissioner, Ministry of Environment, Kaka Shehu Lawan, has, on Saturday, expressed his dismay about filling station operators that use their facilities as motor parks in during the monthly sanitation exercise.

He warned that henceforth, any filling station that violates the rules contained in the Certificate of Occupancy granted by the State will be revoked with immediate effect.

Recall that Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan in his acceptance speech, while taking over the affairs of the Environment Ministry, said Maiduguri will be one of the cleanest and safest place to live in. He led a strong team to supervise the sanitation exercise.

The team went round Maiduguri and it’s environs to enforce the exercise and described the outing as very encouraging. He also called on the citizens to give their cooperation by cleaning their immediate environment as cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Barrister Lawan said Government will continue to support its citizens and provide all necessary conditions to make the city a habitable. Demolition and pulling down of illegal structures, especially on water ways to ensure the environment is clean and healthy will be carried out.

The Commissioner also marked illegal toilets and structures for demolition and warned charcoal and firewood sellers to vacate roadsides as Government has provided a space for them near Bakassi camp along Damboa Road.

He also warned defaulters especially women petty traders to respect the law, stressing that they will face the full wrath of law if caught again.

Dignitaries that supported the Environment Commissioner during the sanitation exercise include, among others, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Yahaya Dankoli, Chairman Urban Planning and Development, GM BOSEPA and Environmental Vanguards.
